This is going to be without the usual professionalism. If you weren’t aware, my mum died yesterday so I’m a bit all over the shop but I still want to get something out on the game because there are a few interesting things to note.
Firstly, West Ham started with a 5212 off-ball structure to enable a higher press on Chelsea’s lateral centre-backs and to deny balls into the midfield three of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher and Mateo Kovačić. This gave time on the ball to Thiago Silva at the heart of the Chelsea defence but would theoretically deny him options and force him to look for longer passes that Chelsea would have no hope of winning with Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling partnered up top.
