André: Scout Report

Callum Goodall –

The 2022-23 campaign has finally come to an end, a 309-day-long season that included the first-ever winter World Cup. This brief pause does not translate to a break in the drama though, as transfer season is already well under way. One position we can expect to see plenty of movement this window is central-midfield, and Fluminense’s André is a player that should garner plenty of attention.

Liverpool are undertaking a midfield overhaul, which started with the signing of Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister for £35m (plus add-ons); Sergio Busquets has announced his departure from Barcelona after nearly 20 years at the club; Chelsea look set to splash even more cash this summer as they search for an elite ball-winner to replace the Saudi Arabia-bound N’Golo Kante, and the much-anticipated departure of West Ham captain, Declan Rice, seems increasingly imminent.

It’s likely that the shortlists of Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea, and the likes will feature many of the same names – Ibrahim Sangaré, Manu Koné, Khéphren Thuram, Sofyan Amrabat, Moisés Caicedo – but for teams like West Ham and Brighton who don’t enjoy the riches or reputation to attract such high-profile players, shopping smarter is going to be the key to success this summer.

Under Tony Bloom’s ownership, Brighton have enjoyed great success shopping in South American markets, with the likes of the Mac Allister and Caicedo lighting up the Premier League, and Julio Enciso, Facundo Buonanotte, and Jeremy Sarmiento looking similarly promising. The region is stacked with undervalued talent, and André could well be the next young South American wonderkid to take Europe by storm.
